Quality Assurance Specialist

Position Title: Quality Assurance Specialist - Louisville, KY

Job Summary:
Responsible for the administration of all Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions at the MSD laboratory. Trains technicians, operators, and chemists as needed regarding Standard Methods and other EPA methods. Participates in method development and review. Reviews all data produced by the laboratory on a daily basis. Responsible for the control and reporting functions through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Essential Job Functions:
Performs data review for proper quality control and transcription errors. Insures that laboratory methods used comply with required EPA standards, methodology and quality control. Creates and evaluates quality control charts. Prepares quality control check standards, and proficiency samples. Monitors employee's adherence to safety standards and performs safety meetings. Trains analysts on all procedures and modifications. Performs analyst audits for all methods. Serves as back-up to chemist on specific instrumentation. Performs Fecal Coliform analyses for biosolids. Performs TOC analysis. Keeps quality assurance manual updated and revised. Reviews and modifies existing procedures. Researches and documents new procedures. Administers the Round Robin Program with local laboratories. Assists in the maintenance and implementation of the LIMS. Administers and up-dates the Chemical Hygiene Plan and Safety program within the laboratory. Provides supervision for laboratory staff in the absence of the Laboratory Manager and Research Chemist.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the Work:
Knowledge of statistical methods; knowledge of laboratory procedures and methods; skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel); ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to work effectively under heavy surges in workload and deadline pressure; ability to exercise judgment and discretion; ability to work in a team environment.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field; two or more years environmental laboratory experience; one or more years experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Control function; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must obtain Kentucky Wastewater Analyst Level IV Certification within 12 months of obtaining the position. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have safe work and driving habits.

$55,099.20 - $83,990.40 Annually
