Field Engineering Technician

Position Title: Field Engineering Technician - Louisville, KY

Position Description: 
Provides technical and field support to all division staff relative to instrumentation needs such as installations, monitoring networks and USI sewer inspections. Performs troubleshooting activities on all equipment items and repairs and establishes operational procedures for repair/maintenance and charging of field instruments. Evaluates and recommends equipment for use by field personnel. Performs routine field maintenance and data retrieval activities for flow monitoring projects. Prepares training guides for equipment. Ensures decontamination of samplers, flow devices and bottles. 

Provides technical and field support for all divisional instrumentation needs. Provides assistance with Confined Space Entry. Evaluates sampling protocols and institutes improved methods that increase sample quality. Assists with sampling installations. Assists with special sampling projects. Fabricates items in the field that are for site specific purposes. Maintains inventory database. Conducts pricing and reliability studies on equipment and instrumentation. Orders, stocks, distributes, maintains and calibrates all field section equipment items. Organizes and orders all supplies for MS4 stream sampling, wastewater sampling and flow monitoring programs. Performs inspections of wet weather discharge reconnaissance routes. Conducts scheduling of sampling required for regulatory purposes to include routine industrial sampling, special sampling projects and sampling associated with the wet weather and streams programs. Calibrates, maintains and performs troubleshooting for equipment and instrumentation. Assists with equipment and instrumentation repairs. Assists with field staff training. Drafts and maintains all associated SOPs. Utilizes computer to access and download data from field instrumentation. Enters purchase requisitions into SAP.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the Work:
Knowledge of field instrumentation equipment specifications, application, installation, operation, maintenance and requisition; knowledge of inventory and purchasing procedures; knowledge of industrial wastewater sampling protocols and lab analysis; skill in oral and written communication; skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite); ability to resolve problems; ability to read blue prints and understand basic construction and equipment layout; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload; ability to perform simple mathematical calculations; ability to plan and organize work effectively; ability to exercise tact and diplomacy; ability to work 24 hour emergency response; ability to work various shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime; ability to work outdoors, at night and in all weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED; two or more years of wastewater sampling experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have safe work and driving habits.

$19.86 - $29.30 Hourly 
$41,308.80 - $60,944.00 Annually
