Chief Innovation Officer

Position Title: Chief Innovation Officer - Louisville, KY

Position Description: 
Executive-level leader responsible for developing and promoting the organization's strategy for innovation. Fosters company-wide innovation through exploration, communication, and collaboration. Responsible for supporting business units with new product and service initiatives. Responsible for leading new revenue efforts for the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) and the Louisville Water Company (LWC) under the "One Water" initiative. Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and pursuing revenue opportunities related to new business lines, innovative technology, regionalization, and economic development. Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

The Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) will work with the business areas to measure the likelihood of success for those ideas that are aligned with our strategy, obtain approval from executive leadership for pursuit, implement revenue generating initiatives, and develop key measures to track and report on progress. Performs the following: 

Sales / Marketing
Establishes, develops and maintains positive business and customer relationships.
Develops a detailed portfolio of product and service offerings.
Presents, promotes and sells products and services using solid arguments to existing and prospective customers.
Develops and executes contracts with customers for products and services.
Monitors competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
Develops marketing and branding ideas for innovation projects, regionalization, and economic development. 

Project Management
Serves as a champion of innovation.
Sets a clear vision for innovation and obtains support from senior management and stakeholders.
Builds a scalable operation prepared for growth. 
Develops a methodology for identification, review, and pursuit of initiatives.
Fully assesses new ideas and develops comprehensive business cases.
Assists with communication of the innovation strategy across both organizations.
Provides periodic updates to the MSD Board, LWC Board, One Water Board, and executive teams.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Develops implementation criteria for initiatives.
Establishes strategic and operational performance measures.
Monitors and reports on performance of active initiatives.

Develops and leads strategy teams at both MSD and LWC. 
Leads teams in identifying and assessing new revenue opportunities.
Leads MSD and works closely with the Business Development Director at LWC on Regionalization efforts.
Leads MSD and works closely with LWC on the WERF Innovation study initiative.
Works collaboratively across all departments within both organizations.
Helps people generate ideas.
Identifies and works closely with external business partners.
Supports business areas in the development of new product and service initiatives.

Education/Experience/Skills Required: 
Knowledge of the utility industry; knowledge of various disciplines within a utility; knowledge of project management techniques and tools; knowledge of general management and supervisory techniques and principles; skill in successfully implementing large-scale projects or programs (preferably those innovative in nature); skill in executing complex strategic and operational initiatives; skill in decision-making, long-term planning and organization; skill in critical thinking and problem solving; skill in oral and written communication; skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite); skill in exercising tact and diplomacy; ability to influence participation and decisions from persons they do not manage; ability to negotiate; ability to build relationships through collaborative partnerships; ability to guide and energize others to embrace new opportunities arising from change; ability to develop and strengthen networks and relationships, both inside and outside the organization; ability to cultivate a climate of motivation, positive energy and meaning in work; ability to inspire strong organizational performance through periods of transformation, ambiguity and complexity; ability to exercise judgment and discretion; ability to research problems and initiate solutions; ability to gather, analyze and interpret data; ability to manage multiple priorities; ability to plan and organize work effectively; ability to work under heavy surges in workload and deadline pressure; ability to work 24 hour emergency response, various shifts and weekends; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure.

Bachelor degree in business, marketing, engineering or a related field; ten or more years of related utility experience including project management, program management, innovation, research or operations management; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have safe work and driving habits.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or graduate degree in a related field preferred. 
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

$146,390.40 - $241,571.20 Annually
